Goals: Meeting is intended to focus on design of web portal interface providing access to observed and simulated earth-centric data sets within weather and climate research communities. Specified requirements for back-end tools (security, registration, search, browse, etc.) needed to support web interface will be discussed at later time. Technical aspects must be agreed upon prior to actual web portal prototype is developed such as a common API for components of web portal); we hope to address some of these issues at this meeting. Day 1: Each presenter will give a brief presentation on what they think are the requirements and important issues in the design of web portal interface. Then lead discussion on main topics covered in their presentation. Each presenter is given 45 minutes. Due to tight schedule, we must enforce the time constraints. Day 2: Summarize what was learned from previous day's session and come to a consensus on requirements for design of web portal interface. List projects needed to design web portal interface and come to agreement on who will be responsible for each project. Poses a time-line on the tasks assigned to the groups. Establish means for communication (i.e., e-mail, Access Grid, phone conference, another workshop, etc.). Summary: A detailed summary will follow the workshop describing in detail web portal interface requirements and agreed upon design. A task list with time lines and all presentations presented at workshop will also be included in workshop summary.
